Frivilious Friday

I have no knitting progress to report.. absolutely none. I haven't touched the needles all week.

So.. here are a bunch of other little things that are going on around the studio this week.

True Love
Tomorrow, Dave and I celebrate seven years of togetherness. I've been wracking my brain about what to get him for a present. The boy has everything - and anything he doesn't have, I can't afford. I considered making him socks but 1) he's not deserving, 2) this is 7 years... some how socks just don't scream I'll love you forever - even if they are hand knit 3) I don't have time. Dave's not a gadget guy, he's not a sports guy, and he totally doesn't wear ties.

I asked him what he wanted and got "Nothing. Save your money." So I asked, "Are you getting me something?" to which he responds "Of course." So now I HAVE to get something.
Today I finally settled on a couple pairs of new jeans. It doesn't so much scream "I love you" as "I love your butt", but it will have to do. Besides - he does need jeans and getting him to go shopping is a nightmare.

Abandoned
Today, Mom has left for "Knit Camp". Dad has left for "Hunt Camp."
Lady...
...is spending the weekend with my grandparents.

Russell, Duece and Tibby....
... are home alone. I'm going up every day to feed, water, love and scoop poop... but they are not very happy cats. They all go outside, but it's too cold to leave them out - and I don't have the time to wait around for them to come back in. So they are stuck inside until Sunday. When I popped by this afternoon they had only been alone for about four hours, and Russell was already complaining... loudly. I think Mom is going to have some serious explaining to do when she gets home.

WTF?
I was in Chapters today and I came across this:
Here's a quick plot summary (got to Wikipedia to read the full version):

"The story follows the plot of Pride and Prejudice, but places the novel in an alternative universe version of England where zombies roam the countryside. Elizabeth Bennet and her four sisters live on a countryside estate with their parents. Mr. Bennet guides his daughters in martial arts and weapons training, molding them into a fearsome zombie-fighting army; meanwhile, Mrs. Bennet endeavours to marry the girls off to wealthy suitors. When the wealthy and single Mr. Bingley purchases a nearby house, Mrs. Bennet spies an opportunity and sends the girls to the first ball where Bingley is expected to appear. The girls defend the party from a zombie attack, and attraction sparks between Mr. Bingley and eldest daughter Jane Bennet. Elizabeth, however, clashes with the Bingley's friend, the haughty monster-hunter Darcy."

I am a huge Jane Austen fan (and I would trade Dave in for Mr. Darcy in a heart beat) and I am at once appalled and intrigued by this book. I almost bought it, but I think I'll wait for it to end up in the bargain section... just incase it's crap. There is another... "Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters"... wow!

Warm it up
It's turned quite cold here - there were even reports of snow on the mountain (for those not from the area - the mountain here is the Niagara Escarpment... it's really a big cliff... and people who come from places with "real" mountains tend to laugh at us, but we don't care) so I think I'm going to be casting on for a new project:
The entrelac-along beret. I've never done entrelac but mom says it's easy. I even went out an bought Noro for this. I'm not particularly fond of Noro. I don't like the feel or the knots. So, I bought the Silk Garden to help with the feel, and the knots I'll just have to deal with it. It's entrelac, so I can work around them.

That's it for now, hope everyone has a good weekend and stays warm!

So many good things -- not to mention weird ones... (zombies? seriously? you're going to have to review that one once you've read it!) I know what you mean about buying presents; sometimes the pressure is too high -- there's almost nothing that actually says I love you enough that I'm willing to put up with you for a good long time like 'til I'm dead, so you've just got to go with what's practical :)

Happy anniversary of your togetherness! I am the same with Noro -- the knots are a total pain, aren't they? I hate knots in any yarn, but that seems to have an inordinate amount.

Have a nice weekend!

I'm looking forward to seeing your Entrelac beret. Sounds like a good smaller project to try out a new technique!

First of all, I've read P & P & Zombies....if I had it to do over again I wouldn't, but that's just me! I do love the original, and like you was intrigued by this, but all in all, Austen's is the best, and whatever parts are added are stilted at best, and I really think it should have been called P & P & Ninjas, because they focus more on martial arts dialogue than zombies...this is typical, as a lot of men seem to have a fascination with karate and kung fu and it was written by a guy.

Second of all, happy anniversary! Lovely picture, hope you have a great time and celebrate together, it's a milestone.

Thirdly, how cute are all those animals?!!

Lastly, I giggled when I read about your comment about people who come from places with 'real' mountains, because I am just such a person, grew up with the Rockies in view from our kitchen window, and when I moved here and people started talking about Hamilton "mountain" I was very confused and then amused...

I just got home and someone left a big poop on the laundry room floor. Looks like they're really mad. Lady is exhausted and sleeping her weekend off and I think I'll have a bath and think about my wonderful weekend with Cookie A.
