Making candy

Often, when I talk to people about dyeing yarn, one of the things they say is, 'I wish I could do that."

They rarely believe me when I say that they can. Dyeing yarn is not hard. Technically, it's very easy - there's only a handful of steps  (though dyeing stripes can be tricky until you get the hang of it). And most people realize that - the thing they worry about is playing with the colours.Which ones to choose? How many colours to use? Will yellow go with magenta?

And what I tell most people is that the best yarn happens when you don't think about it too much and just have fun.

Let me prove it to you... way back in March last year, Mom had the monsters for March Break and she let them play in the dye studio.

This one, who was not yet five years old....

 ...was let loose on a sock blank that mom had cranked out on her CSM.

The colour choices and execution was all her - Mom was only mixing dyes and making sure she didn't drink them.

That sock blank was unravelled and skeined up as a gift for her mother, Jenn. Rowan called the colourway "Candy Shop".

Well, Jenn joined in on our Mr. Dress-up KAL and turned Candy Shop into a delicious pair of socks.
