Hanky panky

There was yarn dying today - but since you've seen so much of that, I thought I'd share something new.

I mentioned a few posts back that I had purchase some silk hankies - or mawatas - to try some dying and knitting.

Here they are hanging out to dry. Each of those hankies has several layers - this is going to take a while to draft. But I do love the shine.

I knew that some spinners buy those hankies, and spin thin silk yarn from it, but how do you knit from it?

I've spun from these before and I love the resulting yarn; not quite so keen on the drafting though, really hard on your hands. Haven't tried knitting from them yet, though I know the Yarn Harlot has so it can be done.

What gorgeous colors!! I'm finding that drafting and knitting these guys goes much more quickly than I'd thought it would.
