Market adventure

One of the good things about not having a car is that it's helping me rediscover my city. I didn't start driving until my early 20s, and throughout my teens, traveled every inch of the city by bus, bike or foot.

Once I started driving, there were a lot of places I stopped going, because they are just not overly car-friendly (congested, limited parking).

So imagine my delight when I needed a large amount of small onions* and realized the most likely place I would find them was...
The area has a couple Farmer's Market, but the best of them is right downtown in Jackson Square, an old, run down mall in the heart of the city.
It's huge.... this picture just shows a slice. It's two levels filled with almost every food you can imagine. Meat, cheeses, produce...
baked goods, spices, coffee, teas.... home grown honey and resulting products!
And lots and lots of plant and floral goods
(A few of these beauties came home with me.) When I was a teen, the flowers were always my favourite thing about the market.

I took a few trips around before finally finally my onions
I came home with treats for Dave (pepperettes) and Rupert and Peno (cat grass and cat nip) too. I would have bought more, but bussing it means you have to be able to carry all of it.

Unfortunately, I came home with one more souvenir though...
Only I would slip and fall on an indoor textured (non-slippery) surface, while wearing flat, well-treaded boots. I'm just talented like that. And yes, that's the same knee as last time. It's not as deep this time, mostly just intense road rash. *SIGH....*

*more on those onions in an upcoming post.

What a wonderful market! So much delicious food. So sorry you fell, it looks painful. One thing I miss living in a small town is a year round market. I loved the Halifax market.
Take care.

Oh, no....that's a big boo boo!
I agree with you about city walking. I love it. I could live right in the middle of Georgetown and be very happy if it weren't for the money, The Mister and all the cats.

What fun to walk around in the market like that! I'm sorry you brought home an injury for a souvenir!

That market looks AWESOME!!! I'd love to be able to do my marketing there.

Hope the knee heals up quickly! Those boo boos really sting!

I always find it's not the injury that hurts, it's the humiliation of wiping out in front of other people.

Hope it heals quickly.

Well, I envy you that market, but not the boo-boo...
Heal fast!

I wish we had markets like that here, but there's nothing like that big in Christchurch.
