Walkabout

It's no secret that I really need to exercise more. I'll have brief fits where I get all motivated, do it for a few weeks and then it dies off and I'm back on the couch with a bag of potato chips.

Honestly - I have access to a gym at work... but I can't stand going. We have a bowflex and a recumbent stationary bike here, but using them just bores me to tears. I've tried watching/reading stuff while using them, but even that doesn't help. (I even tried knitting on the bike...)

But the other day while driving home from work, I had an epiphany. I needed to go to the bank. And the bank is just past where I turn into our townhouse complex. Why not go home, drop the car off and WALK to the bank? Before I got a car, I use to walk EVERYWHERE. Then I got a car and got incredibly lazy.

So I did just that. (Dave might have looked at me like I was crazy when I told him I was going for a walk... but I like to keep him on his toes.)

And as I was walking to the bank, I thought to myself... "The pharmacy is only a few blocks further, I really should walk up there and renew my prescription." In the end, I didn't because there was a storm blowing in and I didn't bring and umbrella... but that thought got the wheels turning further.

You see - the grocery store is only a few blocks in the other direction (along with my beloved Dollarama), and the closest mall really isn't much further than that...

With a little investment...
...and....
... I'm ready to walk anywhere!

Now grocery day isn't for another week or so, but I still have to go renew that prescription. And I'm sure I can find a few more destinations to break in those shoes...

Let the walkfest begin! (At least until it gets cold again... then it's going to take a little more motivation...)

You can do it! Our grocery store is 2.3 km ...and this morning I was thinking about it. Especially with earbuds and tunes!!

That is me too, combined with a sugar addiction it's not good. I hate this time of year for exercise too. I get a workout once a fortnight with my personal trainer but I need it more often. The rowing machine is good, but you can't read and TV is out due to the racket. I do sometimes walk to the dairy to get milk and backpack it home again; need to do that more often I think.

Pup and I have tipped the scales in the uh,oh direction lately so we've been walking every morning now even in this heat wave. I put old doggie in the new doggie stroller and off we go until one of us is panting. I had to buy poop bags for the first time in my life. :(
I also bought her a kitty fountain to get more water in her. The Mister thinks I'm nuts but she can jump up on the couch again. As for me, I need to stay away from the ice cream and gin and tonics to have any effect, I'm afraid.

You go, girl. The new shoes and tall cart are great investments for your walks.

I walk everywhere, whenever I can. Even in cold and icky weather. It just feels good. :-)

Good for you, Valerie! Are those new Chuck Taylor's? They changed their design the first time in 98 years! They've got cushioning now! Many Chuck fans are not happy about that. ;o)

Awesome. It's hard to find something you want to do. So I fully support whatever it is that makes you happy and active. I think it's great you're taking advantage of the good weather. Are there places you can walk to/from at lunch? I have my "cart" at the office too. hehe.
