Spinning my wheels

On the weekend I was up at Mom's again, but I wasn't in the mood to dye yarn, so we dug out her older wheel (a little Kiwi) and I took it for a spin.
I destroyed an entire braid of mint green corriedale before I finally got the hang of things. And after a bit, we switched wheels and Mom let me work on her Ladybug, which is quite a bit smoother.

I managed to get a bobbin full of some mixed fiber that had been carded into a small batt.
Which we decided to ply with some black merino Mom had spun up a while ago.

It worked out fairly well so I decided to take another stab at a braid and went and grabbed one of the BFLs I dyed up last week.

So far, I find it much easier to spin from batts than braids, but when all was said and done, I ended up with two little skeins that almost resemble yarn!
Naturally, I came home and knitted them right up. The grey skein was very sheepy, so I thought it would be perfect for the kids. It became a cat nip pouch.
And it was VERY well received
Rocky's got his crazy eyes on
"Ohhhh yeah - mama got the good stuff!!!"

Of course, since I only made on bag, there was little bit of fighting
But in the end, Tux always wins.
The pink/yellow skien...
became a little cat stuffie.... though Rocky thinks this should be his too... cat nip-filled or not.

I think I am in love with Crazy Eyes Rocky! LOL

Tux fights pretty well for a one-armed man. ;-)

It doesn't matter how many matching toys we have, my mini goldendoodles each want what the other has. At this point I can just give them old socks and they are happy.

I LOVE the look and texture of yarn from new spinners. What happens is that as you learn, you can no longer make that wonderfully wonky stuff so it's very precious. I'm glad the kitties are enjoying it!

Welcome to the dark side! I think you'll enjoy spinning once you've got the hang of it and I'm glad you made something with your first yarn, that's precious stuff there.
