Friday after work, I took a little side trip down to Ottawa Street. For those who don't know, Ottawa Street is kind of the "Fabric District" of Hamilton.
Quilting needs, clothing needs, upholstry needs.. .chances are, you'll find it on Ottawa Street. It's also a few blocks away from where I lived as a teenager, so I consider it my old stomping grounds.
It's gotten a little hipster-ish over the last few years, with addition of trendy cafes, "antique" stores, and parkettes to sip your latte in...
But it's still got what made it special...
Block after block of fabric and notion stores.
Normally, I would take my time, strolling in and out of every store. But on Friday, the budget was limited, and I had a mission. I needed to get a piece of fabric, and some specialized notions for a super secret project I'm working on.
So, I headed straight to Nova Sewing Centre. In addition to being a Janome dealer, Nova is all about notions.. threads, elastics, buttons galore, and specialized stuff for dressmaking (like boning and underwire and stuff like that)
The also have miles and miles of the most amazing trim
I managed to get in, get what I needed, and get out without giving into temptation. But I still need a chunk of fabric. So I headed over to Fabricland.
And that's where I ran into trouble. Oh I got my fabric... but they had something on a mannequin... something I just had to make for myself... something that requires yards and yards of glitter tulle...
Tune in Tuesday for details....
