Friday Felines

I've often joked that I brought Rupert home for Peno, and not for myself. And as time goes by, it becomes more and more true.

While I wish he was more cuddly (he has his moments, but it's all very much on HIS terms), I really couldn't have asked for a better companion for our senior kitty.
As you know, she's always been a timid cat. And Rocky and Tux had a tendency to push her around. Dave always said she would have preferred to be an only cat. But I don't agree. She liked the boys, she just didn't like being bossed around. They played too rough. But she was more than happy to snuggle up with them when they were calm.

When they left us, she realized she could finally be top cat. And Rupert is mostly happy to let that stand.... as long as she plays with him every once in a while. When I first brought him home, he was content with a game of swatty paws. But as they've gotten comfortable with each other... Peno is actually starting to chase him. That's something she never did with the other boys.

Almost every night, usually shortly before Dave gets home. Rupert gets wound up and starts calling to her. Within minutes, they are running through the main floor, skidding into walls and hopping across the furniture. It doesn't last long, she is a senior after all. But Rupert enjoys every minute. And Peno seems to too.

And when they aren't playing a game of chase or swatty paws, it's not unsualy to stumble on a scene like this.

That is so nice they bonded so well! I love when they call to each other and act like they have a secret going on. My inside cats do that too. The male has to know where his sister is all day or he gets very nervous.

They are so sweet. We say there must be a secret word we say that causes our boys to start wrestling. At a drop of a hat they just start running and playing. One day we will figure out what the secret signal is.

It's nice to see our 'kids' getting along, isn't it?! Little Lena is finally able to play and cuddle with our most timid cat (the cross eyed one) and they play tag, swatty paws and running down the hall. We love to watch them, too! Beautiful pictures you have of them!

So sweet! I love that they are getting along. We only have Tyg, but fortunately he has Ike from next door and they love to play together and chase each other.

Val , This is a great post for me to read. IT is true that Pie doesn't like how hard Fezzik plays. The cats ARE a social group and they change within that group over time I Think. Mine have places they lay in during certain times of the day. Then they switch up who lays in those same spots later in the day. Cats are fascinating.

Gosh, if I didn't know better I'd swear you took a photo of our tortie! We have another cat also, part Siamese according to the vet, but since she is an adopted stray, we don't really know. Our two do not get along well at all for some reason. They don't really fight though, just do some disgusted hissing at each other and a few swats now and then.
