Jump start

While getting Stella ready to sell on Saturday, we discovered her battery had died over the cold winter (not surprising). So while it was charging, I enjoyed the warm sunshine and poked around my gardens.

I trimmed back some dead stuff, which I didn't get around to before the cold weather hit, and just generally inspected everything.

The up and down weather hasn't seemed to affect the few tender sprouts that started coming up early. They are still coming up and so are a few others.
I was pleased to see the new Black-Eyed Susans had survived, as the three year old plant I had previously died in explicably last winter.  I hope this one lasts longer.
I trimmed back the grassy Cupid's Dart and found signs of new life. This one did particulary well once I moved it to a spot where it could get some more sun.
A few years back, I tried Campanula in the tree garden out front, but it didn't do well. Last year I moved it to the Little Bee Garden. It did much better, but didn't bloom. But it's sprouting up a storm so maybe this year it will make a great comeback!
The Bee Balm is peeking out too. I wouldn't mind getting a few different colours of Bee Balm if I can swing it. It's a really great grower and a cool plant.

What's poking out in your garden?

We just raked the leaves off all my bulbs after seeing the weather forecast. It looks like spring has really sprung here. Everything is up but they don't look as healthy as they usually do and the bunches are smaller than usual. I bet the mosquito, tick, and flea season is going to be brutal. Ugh......

Always nice to see signs of life after the snow......I'm grateful for our own mild winter.
Catching a break is wonderful!!!

Lots of green shoots coming up all over! Fun to see and watch. No sign of my rhubarb yet though which is surprising. Fletch is getting ready to plant some spinach and lettuce in the one raised bed box that we have a cover on -- the kale is doing well in there (all winter long) and it will be nice to have more variety of greens to pick.

Wow, surprising to see somuch coming up. This will be our first Spring in this house. Last Fall a neighbour gave me a wheelbarrow full of perennials. I planted them around the yards. Hopefully they survived.
Good luck selling your car!

Our ornamental pears are blooming gangbusters - and the other morning, I woke up to the lovely scent of orange blossoms. One of my favorite flower scents ever!

My "garden" had a tough year last year. I lost all but one orchid. The Dancing Lady is still okay and putting up a new sprout.

The pointsettia I bought for Christmas still looks as nice as the day I bought it.

I repotted the Bat Plant and the Christmas Cactus in new soil. The Bat Plant was reduced by about half .... I cut off all the frost nipped bits. Hopefully, what is left will take hold and fill out over the spring and summer. The Christmas Cactus .... well I think that thing would survive an apocolypse.

Anything poking out in my garden is getting it's little leaves frozen off, since there's still about 8" of snow in my yard. Though the wild cherry starting to bud, despite the snow.

My weeds are growing like crazy! That seems to be the only green in my garden right now. I need to plant a few things, we never ever did that before March 1, but this year it is so warm already.
