A rocky start to the new work year

I got up before dawn this morning, planning on heading into work a little early. I packed up my laptop, grabbed my purse and my lunch, put on my boots (it's snowy out there!!!) and remembered to grab a pair of shoes for the office. I trudged to my car, grumbling to myself about having to pump gas in the cold.

I loaded everything into the car, got the little ice that was on it clear... turn the key... nothing. Not even a rrrr, rrrrr, rrrr.... just an irritating buzz like a really pissed off bee. Yup... battery was dead. Not surprising considering it barely moved over the holidays, and well - it's pretty darn cold out there!

So, I bring everything back inside, boot up the laptop, and e-mail work to let them know I'll be working from home ( I fortunately have a job where I can do that - though I do like going to the office from time to time.

Dave wakes up a half an hour later and gives me the look. The look that says... "You're either home because you're sick or something is wrong with the car... I really hope you're sick."

But dutiful partner that he is, after much grumbling (he was planning on heading back to the cottage that morning) he got it out, headed to the auto supply shop, bought a new one, and installed it. (I knew there was a reason to keep him around.) He even brought home lunch! And then he left for the cottage.

Anyway, since I didn't have an hour commute home, I took advantage of the extra time to finish up the first handspun sock. This is going to be  a very warm pair.

Oh - the other advantage of staying home today - I was one of the first to see the announcement that little Logan James Campbell Baker made his debut at 6:30 this morning.

He's pretty much a carbon copy of my cousin! Welcome Logan - first word of advice - you family is crazy - just go with it!

And now.. it back to work tomorrow... for real this time....

Sorry to hear about the battery, but the little baby was worth it, right?

Ah, darn car! But what a lovely surprise! It's also very cool, that you can work from home.

Hmmm. I can work from home too, but my new supervisor discourages it. Maybe my battery will die tomorrow. Cute sock, cute baby!

It's neat that you can work from home, but it sucks about having to buy a new battery. What a little cutie!!

Ah, the joys of car batteries on cold mornings - glad that Dave was there to help :) The sock is lovely, and it sounds like it's the right time to be knitting warm handspun socks!

Having a dead battery is such an inconvenience...no matter when it quits on you! Glad it was taken care of that day!

The sock looks great! Wonderful color combination! Perfect for a winter day!

The baby is beautiful. Wow. What a blessing to the family.

Boo. We had to replace the battery in the truck in November. I went out and tried to unlock it with the keyfob and nothing happened. I thought it might be the keyfob but then I unlocked the truck and tried to start it -- nothing. Not even an annoying buzz. I don't have a boyfriend to fix my car troubles when my husband is away so I (thankfully) had to drive the car instead.

Yay for knitting!

Yay for a new baby!!
