Painted roses

... and back to the garden...
I went out the other day to discovered that my white roses are turning pink... and it sort of looks like someone has splattered paint all over them. (You'll notice that the rose to the right is just fine, however).

After a little internet sleuthing, I've discovered this is probably botrytis, a common fungus. It makes sense - we've had a couple of rainy days, followed by several cool, but humid ones. I'll keep an eye on them, but it should clear up as soon as the weather does. If not, I'll have to get some fungicide.

And speaking of weather. I came out after our last storm on Monday to find my poor tomato plants on the ground. They'd long outgrown the tomato cages Dad gave me, and the weight of them, combined with the wind, caused them to topple. There was no major damage - lost a branch or two - but I decided it would be a good time to dig out the old stakes from last year...
Dad's tomato cages made a valiant effort, but they just aren't up to my mad, tomato growing skills. (The rest of the gardens may be going to pot - but I can grow a mean tomato!). These plants are about five feet hight now. The tomatoes are ripening fast and I'm getting a handful every day.

It's amazing ...that fungus is bad, but it LOOKS so pretty!

Glad your tomatoes survived. A homegrown tomato is an awesome treat.

Yeah, the painted rose looks kind of cool. But glad to hear your tomatoes are coming on like gang-busters!

I have never seen that fungus before. It really is pretty.
Those tomatoes are monsters! You're going to get quite a harvest. I could use a fried green tomato right about now.
