I need light

Can I just say I really don't like winter for just one reason... I don't mind the cold, the ice and the snow. I'm Canadian and a home-body. I'll just stay inside and knit. It's all good.

No... I hate the darkness. It's dark before 5 p.m. now. And when it is light out, it's usually dim and gloomy. (I do love bright sunny winter days when the sun sparkles off the snow - but those days are few and far between.) And aside from the fact that all that darkness is just downright depressing, it also means a season of crappy photos.

I can either take dull, lifeless photos in the weak, pathetic daylight.
Or take ones with the flash that just don't do justice to anything
But photography woes aside, as you can see - the first Blackrose sock is done.

And much sooner than I thought it would be. I cast these on on November 17th, and they've only been knit during my lunch hours. And I've skipped quite a few of those. I also went down to a 2.25 mm needle, but despite all that - this one seems to have just flown off. Hopefully the second one is just as quick.

As you can see from the first picture, I've opted for a picot hem instead of ribbing. But other than that and the needle size, I'm knitting it as written.

(And yes, there seems to be a bit of a red theme with my knitting lately... In fact, I'm casting on a red hat tonight... details on that coming soon.)

Oh, I love all the colors you knit in! As for crappy photos and crappy light. I may not be Canadian, but I feel like I understand. I'm always depressed when I leave work and it's NIGHT TIME, like spooky time.

Minnesota has the same problem. I hate it when it is dark at 4:30. Nice sock.

I am so with you...less than 3 weeks until the days start getting longer again!

Beautiful pattern ----Looks like it is a well fitting sock as well.

Well, in three more weeks, the days start getting longer. Just hang on to that thought. ;-)

Even when I take things outside to photograph in the day they have a weird tint to them. I also can't see when I'm knitting at night even with the light right in my face. Ahhh....winter. How many days until spring?

I love the brighter splashes of colour in it, but the subtlety works well for the pattern too.

Red for you, green for me, we make a Christmas scene!

The early setting sun just gets me too. I do not like it! Too much darkness in a day. Thank goodness we usually have sunny, not too many gloomy, days in winter.
