The scarf slog

I have a confession to make... I hate making scarves. It's true, the rows are fairly short, but I just can't stand knitting the same thing over and over (and over) again.

As lovely as Going My Way turned out, I was pretty sick of it near the end. But at least it had some increases and decreases to keep it slightly interesting...

This one... this one is killing me. Garter stitch and 2.75 mm needles... it's definitely a slog.

But, even though I said it's not really a Christmas present, I am really trying to get it done in time for Christmas. I just bought Dave a new leather coat, and this really would be perfect to pair with it.

So... I've told the household chores to take a hike and every spare minute I have this weekend is devoted to getting it knit. (because then I still have to weave in all those vertical threads.)

We'll see how far I can get, because it's hard to say how much knitting time I'll get during the week as I still have to work

And as you can see... I've got a long way to go...

Beginners always want to start with a scarf and I discourage them. You'll die of boredom before it is finished and you will hate knitting. Good luck.

I'm not overly fond of the scarf slog either, I need something to break the monotony. Despite that though I do rather love that pattern when it's finished so one day...

I guess I'm in the minority. Sometimes I LOVE just plain old garter stitch. I can let my mind wander while my fingers work on.

I love the color combo.

I feel your pain. I have to use stitch markers for length so I can see progress or I go crazy. I find knitting anything for men a slog. The stuff is big and the colors are usually boring.

I totally agree with you. No matter how fancy a stitch pattern, or simple, it gets boring way too fast.

Oh thank you for your confession. I realize I feel the same way. Really Cowls are all I can manage in the realm of scarf. Shawls aren't as painful for some reason, but wraps and stoles are glorified scarves, you can't fool me!

Regardless of your slog, it does look really smart, so I hope ya get to the end soonish. The Menswear Slog, it should be it's own blog, hehe.
