Step-up

The other day Dee mentioned her commitment to getting out and walking more. It was a weird coincidence, because I had just ordered myself a new pair of walking shoes.

When Stella went caput a year and half ago, I thought that not having a car would help me shed a few pounds because I'd be walking more. And while I do walk more now, I don't walk every day. And unfortunately, none of my extra weight has shifted. I seem to have stopped the gradual gain, which is good, but I'd like to see the scale go in the other direction.

When I read Dee's post, I knew it was another sign that I had to get out there, and get moving - EVERY DAY!

So as soon as my new shoes arrived...
I hit the road. I'm starting small. I live in suburbia, so there are endless looped routes I can take around my neighbourhood. I've started with the figure of about 2 km (1.25 miles). I can walk further, but I start to really feel it when I get up to 3 km. I have back issues, and while the walking will help, I have to be careful about pushing it too hard, too fast.

My walks me 15-20 minutes depending on how fast I walk. I'm hoping by the end of the month I'll be in better shape and able to increase the distance.

In the meantime, I can enjoy exploring my surroundings. This time of year is a great time to be out walking. Not only because of the weather, but because the trees are finally blooming!
If we are every able to buy a house instead of rent, you can bet your bottom dollar, I'll be  planting some flowering trees. Including my absolute favourite..
The Magnolia! But for not, those blooms are a good incentive to get off my butt and out into the great outdoors!

Good idea to start walking, I should do the same. I booked into a local gym twice this week but had to cancel them both (vertigo first day, sore toes second). Might go for a walk on the weekend (have a PT session tomorrow).

Good for you!! And cute shoes as well. I'm hoping to get back into walked after dinner and on weekends now that it is light later in the day/evening. I've toyed with walking at lunch, but I don't really want to get all sweaty and then go back to work. Plus either knitting or reading at lunch is so relaxing and calming.

I've been trying to step it up too with Pup but now the bugs are out....ugh. I am covered in bites. I got shortchanged this year in the good weather department.

Bravo!

Even though my knee (not the one I had replaced) is giving me fits, I need to get back to a regular walking schedule - a little at a time.

It's like the time of year when you feel like you want to get out anyway, so why not have it be for good!

Good luck on your goal. I need to walk, but then I feel guilty if I don't take the dogs, but when I take the dogs it's a free for all!

It is nice to get out and see what is going on in your neighborhood, isn't it!
Happy walking and soon you will see results!

Good for yoU!! I've walked a few days this week. Only half and hour but on most days, except barn days, I have the time and it is so good for me. We live on a hill and the road up is a real huffer puffer for me! I never lost weight walking, but I never gained either!
