The meme thang

Another meme from Kathy B...

* Do you follow any blogs that are not knit or crochet blogs?
A few - some are quilty, some are farmy, some are just lifestyl blogs

*Do you wind your yarn into cakes or balls?
Depends on where I'm winding. If I'm in the studio, I cake because swift and winder are already set up. At home, I do balls (and wrap the skein around my knees) because I'm too lazy to dig out the swift and winder and set them up.
*What is the longest stretch you can recall not knitting?
That would have to be back when I first started knitting  - I would go weeks at a time. That's not long after Dave and I started dating, so more than a decade.

*Do you bake or buy birthday cakes?
Buy. I've baked one or two, but there's nothing quite like a birthday cake from the grocery store bakery. And since it's just the two of us, it really only happens twice a year.

*Do you drink water every day?
Yes, and lots of it. If this was the only thing you needed to do to stay healthy and fit, I'd be set. I have always loved water (though I prefer it REALLY cold) so it's an easy thing for me to do.  And now the medication I'm on makes me very thirsty, so I drink even more.

I have one of those reusable tumblers at work, and I fill it three to four times while I'm there. I also drink water at home. I'm not going to dehydrate anytime soon.

*Have you given up on knitting a certain garment?
Yep. Lots. If I'm not loving it, it gets frogged. Time is precious, no sense spending it on something you hate.

*For the terrifying question there are several parts: Have you ever been:

Stuck in an elevator?
Very briefly (like 30 seconds when the doors wouldn't open for some reason). I'm not overly concerned about this one though - I'm not particularly claustrophobic. Last time I had an MRI, the technician actually stopped halfway through to make sure I hadn't passed out - I was so calm and unmoving, he couldn't tell. I think I was actually starting to fall asleep.

lost on a hike?
Yep. Lots. Though in this area, you can't go too far without finding civilization again, so unless it's winter, you're not really in major danger unless you do something really stupid (like try to scale a cliff). Just keep walking and you'll find people.

run out of gas?
Oh... let me count the times.... I've done it three times myself. Though twice I've managed to get the car all the way home (and then walked to the gas station around the corner). Once, Dave and I ran out of gas in his '67 Bonneville, but we weren't far from my parents so we called Dad and he brought us some.
The next time we were in his Buick. I warned him about getting gas - his gas gauge wasn't working right, so I said: "just stop and get gas so we don't have to worry." He insisted we were fine. 15 minutes down the highway, we ran out. He was able to coast it to the nearest off ramp. But we were between big cities, and the nearest gas station was at least a 5 km (3 miles) walk from where we stopped. Once again - we weren't terribly far from Mom's (about a 20 minute drive), but this was only six months or so after the  first time and he was too embarrassed to ask for help. He insisted we walk. It was March. It was cold, it was wet... and I'm not athletic. By the time we got to the gas station, I grabbed his phone off him and called Mom to drive us back to the car - I was NOT walking back!

needed to have an emergency landing..?
I've only been on a plane twice - and no. The last time was a pretty turbulent landing though. I was coming into Toronto Island late at night, so it's really nothing but blackness around you (but you know the lake is out there)
Those bumps before touching down were pretty scary. Even some of the more seasoned travelers mentioned it was pretty bad turbulence. (Fun fact: The airport frequently makes "scariest runway" lists because of it's island location.)

That landing island thing is pretty cool.

Oh Lawsy ........that IS a scary runway.

Depending which way you come into Philadelphia, it looks like you are going straight into the river. In Orlando, the last couple of miles are over Lake Conway and it looks like you are going to land right on it. Then right before touch down you go over a major highway about 100 ft. off the ground. CREEPY!

Running out of gas would be so awful in the cold! You are a real trooper for walking to the station. We'd be fighting it out all the way!

I've had mostly very good flying experiences. Once years ago we had turbulence and that scared me off planes for a decade though
