(Love Monkey doesn't count as the first FO, because other than the pompoms, it was finished in December)
I've done it...
It really should have knit up much quicker. It's a simple, easy to follow pattern, with big needles and big yarn. I could blame illness, but really, I just didn't enjoy working on it.
But, I persevered, and wrestled miles of what felt and looked like fuzzy, sticky egg noodles and turned a unicorn into a fairly passable giraffe. It was really just a matter of making two smaller horns instead of one, shortening the fringe, and adding some spots.
I probably should have trimmed the fringe down even more to make it properly giraffe-like, but I kinda like it a little wild and crazy. And it will suit Nora's personality.
As mentioned before, I used Bernat Blanket yarn, and regretted every minute of it. It was a nightmare to knit with, and impossible to get an even tension. The only thing it's got going for it is that it's super soft and squishy (and washable!). Were I to make this again (unicorn, or giraffe) I would stick with the Lion Brand Thick & Quick the pattern calls for.
And I know my model isn't really ideal... but Roxie is the best thing I have at the moment. Nora's daddy has promised me pictures of Nora enjoying it, so I'll share them when they come my way.
