Spruce Blaster

As most of you agreed, none of those yarns were going to work for Blaster. It was time to get something new. So I went shopping...

... in MOM'S STASH!

If you've been around for a while, you know that Mom has an AMAZING yarn stash. She's always been pretty free about giving something up if she didn't already have plans for it. And now that her focus is mostly on quilting, it's even easier to liberate yarn from her stash.

So I came home with six skeins of String Theory's Merino DK in Blue Spruce.

It's nice and squooshy and lovely to knit with. I was a little worried the variegation would be too busy for the sweater...
But I'm about halfway done the upper back and it's not so bad. The darker shades of slate, pine and navy are broken every so often by a pop of turquoise. Because it's hand dyed, I'm alternating skeins to get a good, even mix.

This isn't a colour I'd usually gravitate towards, but I think it's good to step outside your colourbox every now and I again. And I do have a couple of dresses this will work with, so it's not a huge gamble.

I'm happy I've got a good start on it, but I've really got to put it aside and go look for those darn Nessie eyes... wish me luck!

This color is a great choice for you! I'm glad it is going well but giving Nessie eyes is important, too! lol (There is nothing like a Mama's stash!)

Beautiful! Those colors are right up my alley, and I like the way the variegation is working out. Can't wait to see how it grows :)

Oh that is one of my favorite colorways. I love all things evergreen and spruce and balsam.

Your mother is an angel. I saw the first picture with the stacked hanks and gave a little swear. I saw the second of the yarn's knit up detail. DANG. That is gorgeous. I'm excited for you. I love that Squooshy feeling when knitting you're talking about!

I love it!

Also, if she has anything you both hate, you know where to send it.

I love the colour, but then as you know I'm a peacock/teal person so that's not surprising. I do find the dark peacocks go with a good range of other colours so I think that'll work well for you too;if it doesn't you can always send the yarn down under (wink).
