Things to come

They were predicting about a foot of snow...
Instead we got about an inch - though we seem to be in a bit of a bubble. The areas around us got hit much harder.

And though it's pretty much melted, it's a reminder that I definitely have a while to go to garden season, no matter how many green things are popping up in between storms. Of course, that doesn't stop me from doing a little preparation.

It started with a flash sale from Breck's.
A Toad Lily collection for just $30. Toad Lilies can be quite expensive, and varieties other than purple can be hard to find. This bundle has two of each type pictured, so the offer seemed too good to pass up. Toad Lilies are small - the flowers about the size of a quarter - but they add a fair bit of fall colour, which my garden is sorely lacking.

And since I was spending money, I headed over the Veseys site.
Did you know Lily-of-the-Valley comes in pink? I've got a few clumps of white, but I've wanted pink for a while.
This Ostrich Plume Astibile should be a good bit of colour for the shady spot near the front step.
And I've been eyeing this Asiatic Lily collection for a while. I'm sure I can find room for them somewhere!
Same with this gorgeous Daylily collection! All the Daylilies I have are shades of red, orange and yellow... these purple beauties will be a nice bit of contrast.

These won't ship out until April, and I can't really put them in the ground until May - but it's nice to have something to look forward to!

Your flower photos made me so happy this morning!!! We all need a bit of spring at the moment. March sure came in like a lion this year!

The garden and seed catalogs are always welcome and appreciated in the waning days of winter.

Oh I like each selection. The colorful day lilies are so pretty!! You'll laugh. We took some dead trees down yesterday. I found ONE pair of green tips brave enough to peak out of the soil. ONE. THat was it!!! But we change those clocks next weekend and we are getting some 50 degree days. Im so grateful!

Such pretty, pretty flowers.

No, I did not know lily-of-the-valley came in pink. So pretty! I wonder if it has the same fragrance?

We got a foot of snow, and then some! So much why, heavy snow that there were lots of tree branches down and flickering power through much of the night. Oh well, with warm daytime temperatures and lots of sun, it's melting fast!

Now that I've seen Ostrich Plume Astilbe I think I need some. Looks like it'd be perfect for areas in my garden - damp clay soil and lots of shade. I tried Asiatic Lilies at my Toronto house but couldn't deal with the bugs so I ended up ripping them out.
