As I mentioned on Monday, I should have had an FO post for the Wildflower cardigan for you today...
Instead, I have an AFO post... (Almost Finished Object).
You see, I got the cardigan done, pinned it out on the blocking board, and stretched out all that pretty lace. But something was bothering me. The neckline looked too big. I ignored it and waited for it to dry (not that I could do anything else at that point - it was a wet sweater, after all).
When it was dry, I unpinned it all and gave myself a moment to admire it. It looked exactly as I'd pictured in my mind - a rare thing when designing (at least for me).
Then I put it on. Yep... that neckline was definitely too big. It fell off the shoulders, and when I tugged it up, it gaped terribly at the back. All that pretty lace is just too flimsy for something that needs a bit of structure.
So sadly, I'm going to have to rip the neck lace out and try something else - either a plain garter, or a small rib to snug everything up. Unfortunately, that also means the front bands have to come out too, because I did them after the neckline. They knit fast, but still...such is the fun of designing
But I can take enjoyment in the fact that Mom's handspun blocked beautifully and just just look how those pretty leaves opened up!

Ouch! Sorry about that. But you are right - it blocked out lovely (that color is Devine).
Back to the drawing board! Thanks for sharing the fact that it goes with the designing and it's not too uncommon! The overall design is worth a retake-it is going to be so pretty when finished!
Oh, no.....it's such a pretty thing though. Worth the extra trouble.
Well that's a bummer. But at least with knitting we can rescue the oops and make them work.
Oooh, I love the bottom lace! I'm sure you will come up with a solution for the neckline.
Dang! That has to be anoying. I absolutely love the lacy leaves at the bottom!!
Hmmm...bummer! But it's so cute!
Well , now I can't feel badly about ripping out the car knitting I did this morning. Im so sorry you are having to rework all of that. You have a great attitude! I'll adopt it too
I think lace needs something solid around it at the top to support it. I'd do some sockinette and maybe an i-cord around the neckline to give it definition and support. Mind you, this comes from the girl who realised after finishing a pair of socks that one was 1x1 rib at the top and the other was 2x2; cue red face.
So pretty and so sad to have to rip back, but in the end it will be a stunning piece. I love the colors also!
