Spring chick

In my sewing room, I have five boxes that are just big enough to hold quilts-on-the-go in various stages. To keep my quilt wips from getting out of hand, I'm trying to keep myself from starting a new quilt until a box is free.

Since the Woodland Ballet quilt is off to Mom's, its box was empty, so I decided to fill it with Wren's birthday quilt. Her birthday isn't until April, but who knows how long my mojo is going to last... I thought it best to take advantage while I could.
You may remember Mom and I picked out these fabrics on a shopping trip in the summer. While I love the convenience of pre-cuts, I have to admit, I really enjoy putting together my own fabric combinations. And given Wren's name, I just had to put birds in her quilt.

Normally, I don't cut and sew on the same day, but as I said, I've had a lot of energy lately, so I thought I'd just whip up a few blocks to see how they looked.
Just a simple nine-patch, but I was so pleased with them, that I decided to do just a few more...
And before I knew it, I had them all done! I had to stop there, because I don't have any sashing fabric for it yet. I'll have to pick some up when I get my batting and glue. I'm debating between white, or a warm, buttery yellow.

I guess I'll take a few squares with me, and decide when I get to the store! Oh - and I'm calling this one Spring Chick!

I love a 9 patch. Wow you, nancy and delighted hands are all quilting right now. Hmmmm, something in the air?

Nice! I've seen several quilts made with framed nine patch blocks rather than sashing. You might like that alternative and use both of your color options.

That is going to be an absolutely beautiful quilt! Love your fabrics and some bird themed fabric was definitely required. The blocks are so pretty and I look forward to seeing the progress on this quilt.

Wow, you whipped that out quickly! It's going to be very pretty. I have several quilts waiting for their binding; now if I'd only get inspired to do them.

Five boxes? Wow, you are amazing. And I can't even seen to handle more than one project at a time!
