Summer day dreaming...

As I mentioned yesterday, we are in the middle of a  deep freeze (so far it's been more than a week of temps between -15 and -25 C). There's lots of snow on the ground, and while it's very pretty, it's not so much fun to get out and enjoy it much.

So I'm indoors, knitting and sewing and daydreaming....

..of my gardens!

Now that's not as crazy as it sounds, even though it's barely even mid-January and garden season is months off. Not since Kathy B introduced me to the Winter Sow method.

I still have some seeds left from last year (Lupins, Iceland Poppies, Holly Hocks, and Sunflowers), but I'd like to try a few new things too. So I hopped onto seed website and started dreaming....
I've tried Chinese Lanterns before, but they were old seeds and didn't grow. I think they'd be great for some fall colour.
While I have Foxglove in the garden, I haven't had much luck getting it to come back, so starting some seeds would be good insurance, just in case.
I'd like to do some more milkweed for the butterflies.... and this pink is such a pretty shade.
I adore poppies... and just look as these pretty ones.
Can you believe those are Snap Dragons? They don't look like any snap dragon I've ever seen but I want them!
This Spanish Lavender just looks so cool. It might not be ideal for Winter Sow (our winters are too cold for it), but I may get some and plant them a bit later.
And I'm still on the search for the compact, red Sunflowers my Mom had when I was a teen. These aren't them, but they only grow about 4 feet high, so they might do.

I haven't ordered anything yet... but I will soon. I'd like to get my jugs together by the end of February.

What seeds are you sowing for warmers days?

Ah yes, garden dreaming. Always fun and the seed catalogs have been showing up in our mailbox. I'm just dreaming of being able to get out for walks and sitting on our patio.

None . . . at least not for here.

We may be moving in the summer and I don't want to put my heart and soul into a garden I won't be around to tend.

Send good househunting vibes!!!!

I love those Chinese lanterns. I hope you get some to grow. They are SO much fun.

My sister has those lanterns in Minnesota and I love them. Such a pretty fall bloom and sight. Allison and I planted many many hundreds of seeds from our friends gift bag in october here. I want sunflowers...any kind! I've even set up a reminder on my work calendar, so I won't forget once again to drop seeds in the ground after the last frost.

I had a lot of luck with some early pansies last year so I am looking forward to trying them again.
