Crashing Carbeth

The other day I said I should turn my attention to UFOs.... but I just couldn't resist starting something new...
This mess of stitches is a Carbeth... well... sort of. You may have heard that the knitters over a Mason Dixon are doing a Carbeth knitalong. I fell in love with the sweater when I first saw it, so it was just too hard to walk away from the KAL.

That said... you know me... and well...

I'm modding the crap out of it. As much as I love the pullover version... I don't really  wear them. I prefer cardigans. So mine is going to be a Carbeth-igan!

Also, the original is made with two strands of sport-weight held together. I HATE knitting with two strands at once. You can make it with chunky yarn, but I'm not a fan of that either. So I'm knitting two sizes up with Worsted yarn (on appropriate needles) and hoping for the best.

Sure... I could swatch and do some math and figure exactly what size to knit to make it all work... but what's the fun in that???

If it ends up being to small... I know someone it will fit...

I'm using Jo Sharp Desert Aran Cotton from my stash. Cotton isn't my favorite to knit with, but it will be good to use it up. It's a pretty soft cotton, so it should make a very wearable garment.

I know I really should be finishing some UFOs, but this is a nice mindless knit that shouldn't take too long, and I can be back to the others in no time!

I have been tempted myself to start one of those but I have got to finish something else first. My pile of UFO's is too big even for me.

This is going to be so nice! You know, Kate Davies is making a Carbethigan too!

You will have it done in no time. What a neat construction that is!

I don't swatch, but I don't knit garments, either. I hope your modifications are successful.

That first sentence -- I was laughing, this whole post. I love it Valerie, this is why I love to visit your blog. Your knitting and crafting adventures are so genuine and fun! I am glad you cast something on new and I am with you, I'm not much of a pullover girl and when I knit something that won't work for me, yeah, I give it away. If I kept knitting it, it means I was meant to knit it for some reason or another, even if it's just because i wanted to and it felt good.

You wow us with lovely socks and pretty quilts and cardigans. And cats! Can't forget the cats! Always a good visit. :)

By the way, I'm excited to see how the mods turn out. I love when I think I can make it work w/o the maths!

I love this sweater too!! I'm thinking a Carbethigan will be even better! I think the back is so pretty. I just love the shape of it. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Nice to know that someone else has Startitis! I agree with you about cardigans, much more practical. This sure looks like a pretty one although I don't envy your using 2 strands together. Good luck, it looks well worth the challenge! Happy Knitting!

That is a wonderful design. I am just like that, I do a lot of guess knitting, but as long as I am playing with yarn I don't care. Good luck.
