All they need is a few days above freezing and they start greening up. Especially these mini red Columbine. They are close to the house and get sun all day long, so they always start early.
For some reason the Speedwell does too. Maybe it's the warmth from the house - because these ones don't get as much sun at the side of the house. They don't usually bloom until mid-summer, but they green up quick.
Same with the double-blooming Campanula. This will be the first year I don't have to find a new home for her, so I expect great things. But not until July at least!
I have a feeling I'm going to be pulling up with Wood Poppy all year. The birds brought it as a present last year, and I let it grow to see what it looked like. It's pretty enough, but it started taking over the Little Bee Garden so I've got to stay on top of it. If it's coming back this soon, it's definitely going to be trouble.
The neighbourhood cats will be happy. The potted cat nip seems to have survived and its coming back.
And look - My weeping Pussy Willow is getting catkins! But it was far too early!
Just a day later, the weather turned and...
Winter returns with a vengeance. We're back to freezing temps with more snow on the way this weekend.
At least I've got this lovely catalogue to leaf through, and dream of things to come!

Pussy Willows! Miss those.... and how well I remember browsing garden catalogs waiting for Spring and enjoying all the dreams in color!
This is such a fickle time of year, isn't it. One day it's 70 here and the next will struggle to get past freezing. Thank goodness we haven't had another snow event though. I'm not a fan of the white stuff at all!
It's fun to see signs of spring no matter how small.
Oh Wow! Everything is still very asleep here with inches of snow expected tomorrow. I shut down my garden brain in winter mostly. I didnt' winter sow thisyear because we planted so many seeds in the fall from our friend.....
Keep showing us hope!
It did the same thing here and I was worried about all the sprouting going on. It was in the teens again last night. Mother Nature sure can't make up her mind this year and don't get me started on that groundhog.
Oh, it is so wonderful to see the fresh new green. And then snow. Boo. But good for moisture I'm sure.
