Hunter Dave

After finishing up Miss P's Pips, I needed a new lunch project, so I got a start on Dad's boot socks.

He wanted a nice thick sock to wear for hunting - but it hard to find heavier yarn with nylon in it! And he's a man who needs nylon in his socks.

I finally did at Loveknitting.com. The yarn is Big Fabel by Drops. It's just like their regular Fabel, but in Aran Weight. Not the softest yarn, but not itchy, and hopefully wears just as well as the sock version.

But can I say - it's weird knitting a pair of aran weight socks!!! Until I got to the heel, I felt like I was knitting a sweater sleeve. They will definitely be warm inside his boots, and I have to admit - I kind of want to make a pair for myself to wear around the house (these tile floors are so cold!)

They do knit up fast though. As you can see, I'm making good progress - this was just a few evenings of knitting. Or at least I was making good progress until Saturday morning... when I came down to this...
Yup - that's almost an entire ball - tossed like so much spaghetti. I guess I should be grateful that he didn't chew this one (he's done it to a couple in the past, and I'm left with a ball full of knots). But the weird part is, he hasn't touched my yarn in over a year. I don't know what got into him
"YOU HAVEN'T LET ME OUTSIDE ALL WEEK!!!! NOW OPEN THIS #@$%ING DOOR!!!!!"

I just finished Duffers ... they are awesome for around the house. I like thicker socks for in boots, but I seldom wear boots. Good luck with the large tangled mess!

The dogs don't pay much mind to wool, but sometimes the younger does think my yarn looks like a nice squishy ball to play with! My first attempt at sock knitting yielded a pair of house socks because I didn't realize the yarn was too thick! Ah, but they were warm and cozy....until the younger thought they made a great chew toy!!!! It's amazing the younger is still alive. LOL

Oh my.....bad kitty. Mine still does that from time to time. Right now the sewing room door is shut and my projects are off limits. I don't trust them with all that sparkly stuff going on in there. They are sneaky little boogers. They've spent all day amusing themselves sitting in a new empty cat pan. I bought them both new cat beds today too but it's the cat pan that they want to sit in. Crazy cats.

Hunting Dave is going to LOVE those socks. They certainly will be warm.

Oh...the kitty got into the yarn. What a fine mess...he had fun making!

I keep all my yarn for projects in bags, Star is a yarn/fibre cat and will eat it. Not only is that unpleasant at the other end, it's also a danger to her health and in her case experience is not a good teacher.

The socks look cozy! They almost look like a grey tabby. I must be part cat, b/c I so often tangle sock yarn. sigh.
